THE 'UNACCOUNTED'

Wonder where they are,

The ticks and the fleas,
The toads and croaking frogs,
All that creepy life, in a trampled world,
Left alone, to go wild and empty.

Wonder where they are,
The lizards and grass hoppers,
The bees and fragile butterflies,
All that lived, in a single, dreamy world
Left behind, to silent insanity.

Wonder how many there are,

The grazing cattle and goats,
The dogs and scavenging crows,
All that lived, in a laboured world,
Left shattered, in smouldering agony.

Wonder who wants them now,
Ill counted life, breathing despair,
With grimacing pieces dragged together,
Bundled firm in spiky iron fences,
Outside their old and torn world,
That counts groaning life, in a dead dream.
